Record high temperature today tops 90 degrees

The National Weather Service in Miami is reporting a record high temperature in West Palm Beach today of 93 degrees – a reading that breaks a record held for 30 years by two degrees.

A weather station at Palm Beach International Airport registered the unexpected high at 2:57 p.m. as winds turned south southwest because of a sprawling low pressure system moving off the mid Atlantic coast.

Forecasters were expecting temperatures to hit 90 today, which is six degrees above normal for this time of year. The reading of 93 degrees is nearly 10 degrees higher than normal.

Robert Molleda, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Miami, said this afternoon the forecast for storms has not changed. Meteorologists still expect isolated thunderstorms, some severe, to pop up mostly over metro coastal areas.
