Watch live: Spacewalkers perform first mission of 2017

NASA will live broadcast the first spacewalk of 2017 on Friday as two International Space Station astronauts prepare to upgrade a complex power system.

The broadcast begins at 5:30 Friday morning, with the actual walk expected to occur at 7 a.m.

A NASA blog lists Shane Kimbrough and Peggy Whitson as the astronauts scheduled to work on the power maintenance project Friday. It is Whitson’s seventh spacewalk of her career, matching the record of NASA’s Suni Williams for the most spacewalks by a woman.

A second spacewalk is scheduled for Jan. 13 to continue the work completed Friday.
