A 1974 heat record was tied today as the mercury soared to 87 degrees at Palm Beach International Airport.
The unusual warmth – a full 11 degrees above what’s normal for this time of year – comes ahead of a cold front that is expected to sail through late Thursday night.
Thursday’s daytime temperature should again reach into the mid-80s, but Friday could be as much as 10 degrees cooler.
“What’s happening is we have upper level winds coming west to east across Texas and the Gulf of Mexico and into Florida and the air mass is very warm,” said Dan Kottlowski, a lead forecast with Accuweather. “It’s going to be unseasonably warm so the cool down will kick everything back to normal.”
