Breaking: Incredible images of multiple waterspouts today off Florida coast

The National Weather Service in Key West is reporting multiple waterspouts forming from a line of showers that have been sitting offshore since about 1:15 p.m.

Meteorologist Brandon Fling said the amount of waterspouts reaching down from the stationary boundary is unusual.

“This much activity from a boundary like this is not normal,” he said. “The showers continue to pulse. It’s been a pesky cloud line.”

Fling said NWS staff members counted 14 waterspouts in an hour from a rooftop perch.

Southeast Florida, and the Florida Keys in particular, is a kind of Tornado Alley for waterspouts, according to the National Weather Service in Miami and the International Centre for Waterspout Research’s website.
