JUST IN: All of Palm Beach County in moderate drought

The U.S. Drought Monitor’s report released this morning shows moderate drought has spread throughout Palm Beach County.

For the first time this season, severe drought was also identified in portions of Broward, Miami-Dade and Collier counties. Severe drought is creeping into the southwest corner of Palm Beach County.

About 65 percent of the state is now abnormally dry to experiencing severe drought.

“Welcome to the heart of the dry season,” said John Mitnik, chief engineer at the South Florida Water Management District. “In March, we only received 26 percent of the overall average rainfall that is normal.”
